Local context
Bristol’s building stock combines a substantial harbourside conversion estate (Wapping Wharf, Finzels Reach, the Floating Harbour generally), a corporate and professional services district at Temple Quarter and around Cabot Circus, two universities with large campuses (University of Bristol and UWE), and the aerospace and tech estate to the north around Filton, Patchway, and Aztec West. Each represents a different set of height safety challenges. The harbourside conversions often involve historic warehouse buildings where parapet height safety has to be retrofitted while preserving the brick facades. The aerospace estate at Filton and Airbus has the strictest documentation and audit standards of any sector, requiring full-trail certified evidence on every height access activity.
Bristol City Council and Bath & North East Somerset are active estates, particularly for school buildings and leisure facilities. NHS estate in Bristol covers University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, North Bristol NHS Trust, and a range of community sites. We cover Bristol from our Shaftesbury head office, with travel along the M4 making this one of the more responsive locations outside London.
