Local context
Sheffield’s height safety estate reflects the city’s industrial heritage and its more recent reinvention. Substantial parts of the city centre and the Don Valley contain former steel works and engineering buildings now converted to office, residential, and mixed use, where parapet edges and rooflight provision were never designed with modern access regimes in mind and require retrofit guardrail and skylight protection programmes. The Sheffield Hallam University and University of Sheffield campuses each operate large estates with regular height access requirements, particularly for laboratory plant access and academic building maintenance. Meadowhall and the surrounding Don Valley retail and industrial estate represent a substantial portfolio of large-footprint buildings with extensive roof areas.
Sheffield City Council operates a significant estate including schools and leisure facilities across the metropolitan area. We cover Sheffield from the London office and our engineers also serve the wider South Yorkshire region including Rotherham, Barnsley, and Doncaster.
