Local context
Leicester’s building stock includes a substantial inheritance of textile and hosiery industry buildings, many of which have been converted to mixed commercial use across the Cultural Quarter and along the wider Belgrave Road and Frog Island areas. These buildings typically pre-date any modern fall protection regime and require retrofit guardrail, walkway, and skylight protection programmes. The newer commercial development across the city centre and the science park at Charnwood reflects current-standard practice. Leicester is also home to the University of Leicester (including the National Space Centre and medical school estates) and De Montfort University, each operating substantial estates with regular height access requirements.
Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council together operate one of the larger combined authority estates in the East Midlands, covering schools, libraries, leisure facilities, and administrative buildings. We cover Leicester from the London office.
